  • The episode title The Chestnut
    • The chestnut tree is associated with the God Zeus. Ancient Greeks dedicated the sweet chestnut to Zeus and its botanical name Castanea comes from Castonis, a Town in Thessaly in Greece where the tree was grown for its nuts.
    • In Japan, the chestnut fruit symbolizes both difficulties and overcoming them.
    • The saying “That old chestnut” means it’s something that has been done before. It first appeared in 1816 melodrama Broken Sword.”Zavior: I entered the wood at Collares, when suddenly from the thick boughs of a cork tree…
Pablo: (Jumping up.) A chestnut, Captain, a chestnut… Captain, this is the twenty-seventh time I have heard you relate this story, and you invariably said, a chestnut, till now.”
    •  *The ‘old’ was added later as an intensifier.
    • Specifically, a chestnut is a song that repeats over and over again until it gets old.
  • “Wake up Dolores” could be the voice of Arnold, later it is revealed that the voice of Arnold is their own inner voice. Their consciousness. And the gun that killed Arnold was placed there by Ford to see how Dolores would use the reveries.
  • -30 years earlier- Billy and Logan on the train to Delos HQ, on the train Logan exclaims “That’s the spirit” in response to William

No Surprises by Radiohead
A heart that’s full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won’t heal
You look so tired, unhappy
Bring down the government
They don’t, they don’t speak for us
I’ll take a quiet life
A handshake of carbon monoxide
With no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
Silent, silent
This is my final fit
My final bellyache
With no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises, please
Such a pretty house
And such a pretty garden
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises, please
Songwriters: Colin Charles Greenwood / Edward John O’brien / Jonathan Richard Guy Greenwood / Philip James Selway / Thomas Edward Yorke

This song could be Ford’s way of saying he’s fed up bureaucracy with the board of Westworld, there has been speculation this song is about suicide so it could be when Ford has decided to put his plan in motion.
